Airborne 06.02.17: Planes of Fame Suit, C-97G To Fly 'Soon', TX v UAS

Also: Travolta Donates 707, Hartzell, Airbus Helicopters, Daher Sim, Sloane Helicopters, Judge Blocks Airstrip

A judge in San Bernardino County, CA has ruled that a lawsuit filed by a group of tenants at the Chino Airport to stop the annual Planes of Fame Air Show can go forward.

The tenants, Yanks Air Museum, Flying Tigers Aviation, SOCAL MRO, and Zangeneh Aeronautics had hoped to stop the 2017 show... but they later asked the judge to withdraw their original complaint so that vendors, performers, and people who had already bought tickets to the show were not inconvenienced. But they had always intended to continue with the lawsuit after the show was completed. The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation is reportedly ready to fly the world's only certified and airworthy C-97 Stratofreighter. The foundation acquired the aircraft in 1996 with the intention of creating a flying exhibit dedicated to the Berlin Airlift and the Cold War. This aircraft has been a long term project due to its complexities, the BAHF said on its website, owing much of that to its 28 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-4360 engines. Here we go again... another  day, another myopic drone reg. This time, the Texas Legislature has passed a law banning drones over sports stadiums and correctional facilities. Beginning September 1, it will be illegal in the state of Texas to fly over a sports arena that can accommodate at least 30,000 people, jails or prisons. It also prohibits the operation of a drone over an immigrant detention center. Violations of the law are punishable by up to six months in jail. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
