Classic Aero-TV: Starting From Scratch – Hartzell Re-Props The Piper M500

From 2015: America's 'Prop-Masters' Tackle The Front End Of One Of GA's Hottest Traveling Machines

While at EAA AirVenture 2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, took the opportunity to talk with Joe Brown, the President of Hartzell Propellers.

They started off by discussing Hartzell’s involvement with the new five-bladed propeller installed on Piper’s M500 series of airplane.

As Brown’s explains the development of propeller, the video gives some great views of the front end of the M500 with the Hartzell prop. This is one wicked looking propeller on that airplane! Brown explains the background of the prop’s development and discusses what the user can expect from it.

He told Jim it was primarily intended to provide additional performance in takeoff and climb but, of course, they expected great cruise performance as well. He said the pilots will notice a difference in sound and a smoother operation than what they’re used to with the four bladed propeller.

This video provides some great information about how the propeller was developed and what Hartzell is looking at for the future for other Piper Aircraft.
