Electroflight Signs MOU With Williams Advanced Engineering

Company Is Bidding To Set A World Speed Record For Electric Aircraft

Electroflight Ltd (Electroflight) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate with Williams Advanced Engineering on the design, development and manufacture of an electric aircraft with the objective of setting the world speed record for electric aircraft.

Electroflight is in the process of securing funding and identifying partners to initiate the next phase of the project with Williams Advanced Engineering acting as the technical lead with particular focus on the electric propulsion system. Williams Advanced Engineering is the technology and engineering services business of the Williams group of companies that includes the Williams Martini Racing Formula One team.

"Electroflight (is) thrilled to be joined by Williams in this pioneering electric aviation project; bringing the Electroflight BAT aircraft with its unique contra-rotating electric propulsion system to flight," said Roger Targett of Electroflight. "Williams bring world leading knowledge and capability in high powered electric propulsion systems, gained through Formula One racing KERS technology and the development of high power structural battery packs for the new Formula E electric racing series. We are certain that the combined expertise of the teams will enable us to achieve our goal and break the world speed record for electric aircraft."

Craig Wilson, Managing Director of Williams Advanced Engineering, added “As a technology and engineering business at the cutting edge of energy efficient performance we are delighted to collaborate with Electroflight in the development of this innovative and exciting project."
