Explosion At Airbus Plant Injures Five

Plant Manufactures Engine Pylons

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 05.29.06 1330 EDT: An explosion at Airbus Industries' production facility in Saint Eloi, France Monday morning injured five employees, two critically.

Bloomberg reports the explosion occurred inside one of the plant's hydraulic steel stamping presses. The Saint Eloi facility -- located near Airbus headquarters in Toulouse -- manufactures engine nacelle pylons for several of the European Consortium's models, including the upcoming A380 superjumbo.

An email from Airbus to Bloomberg says damage to the facility was "light," and did not affect the building's structure. Two of the injured workers have been hospitalized, with the other three already sent home.

Airbus reports the plant is up and running.
