Tug Collides With Aircraft At ORD

No Injuries Reported

A United Airlines jet collided with a tug while backing from the gate Thursday at O'Hare International Airport.

The Airbus A319 was pushing back from the gate on its way to Charlotte, NC about 6:40 am when it collided with the tug, according to United Airlines spokesman Jeff Kovick.

The passengers were taken off the aircraft and placed on another plane, said Kovick, who did not know the extent of the damage to the plane or van, according to Chicago's WMAQ-5.

No injuries were reported.

Just who was at fault is not clear, and the carrier has launched a full investigation.

"Safety is an important priority; we're working to try and prevent it from happening again," Kovick said.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to the airport with a report a tug had clipped the fuselage of an aircraft, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.

The crews left the scene soon after arrival as there were no fuel leaks, injuries or fires.
