AW139 Global Fleet Passes 1 Million Flight Hours Milestone

Mark Reached After Just 10 Years In In Service

AgustaWestland is pleased to announce the AW139 global fleet has now flown more than 1 million flight hours, achieving this impressive milestone in just ten years of operations. This milestone has been achieved with aircraft flying in the some of the most demanding environmental conditions around the world while performing a wide range of missions with commercial, government and military operators.

Over 770 AW139s have been ordered by more than 200 customers in over 60 nations worldwide and today more than 650 aircraft are in service, making the AW139 the best selling helicopter in its weight  category and the benchmark type with a 56% market share in the last five years, according to the company. The AW139 fleet leading aircraft has now flown more than 9,300 hours.

The AW139 sets new standards for offshore transport duties supporting the oil and gas industry, and equally excels in a wide spectrum of missions including rescue, homeland security, military transport and VIP/passenger transport.

The AW139 complies with the latest certification and safety standards, offering outstanding overall performance with impressive power margin and one engine inoperative capability for added safety. The AW139 also has the most spacious cabin in its class that can seat up to 15 passengers or up to four litters plus medical attendants.

Designed to allow high versatility and customized solutions, the AW139 is available with more than 1000 certified equipment options. Among some of the latest innovative systems available for the type are the LIPS and FIPS (Limited and Full Icing Protection Systems respectively), and the OPLS (Obstacle Proximity Lidar System) that enhance mission capability and safety.

The AW139 helicopter is part of AgustaWestland’s family of new generation helicopters that also includes the AW169 and AW189. These helicopters all possess the same high-performance flight characteristics and safety features whilst sharing the same common cockpit concept and design philosophy. This approach facilitates synergies for operators of these models in areas such as training, maintenance and support.

AW139 final assembly lines are located at AgustaWestland’s Vergiate and Philadelphia facilities in Italy and the USA, and at Helivert’s facility near Moscow in Russia. AgustaWestland’s facilities in Poland and the UK are also involved in the manufacture of the AW139, supplying the airframe and transmission items respectively to the final assembly lines.
