Two Fatally Injured In Suburban IL Cirrus Accident

Airplane Went Down In Bolingbrook, IL Near Chicago

A surgeon and his wife from Kentucky were fatally injured in an accident in Bolingbrook, IL Wednesday, according to authorities. The surgeon was identified as 63-year-old Dr. Narayan Venguswamy of Georgetown, KY and his wife Jay. They were traveling to Chicago for a medical convention, according to officials from Georgetown Hospital.

Dr. Venguswamy was a licensed pilot. The Cirrus SR20 the couple was flying reportedly hit a tree, a light pole, and three cars as it came down in the parking lot of a Chase Bank branch in the Chicago suburb. There was a post-accident fire which destroyed the airplane.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Jay Venguswamy died at the scene of the accident. Dr. Venguswamy was transported first to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and then to Loyola University Medical Center. He died there Thursday afternoon.

NTSB spokesman Joshua Lindberg told the paper that witnesses said they had seen the Cirrus touch down at Clow Airport (1C5) before becoming airborne again. The pilot reportedly made a left turn at low altitude back toward the airport before going down in the bank parking lot.
