Spirit Confirms Evidence Of Water On Mars

Mars Rovers Now Two For Two In Search For H20

Several days after NASA's announcement that the rover Opportunity has found solid evidence of water on Mars, that finding appears to have been confirmed by its twin, Spirit, half a world away.

This latest evidence comes after Spirit's onboard rock-grinding laboratory analyzed a sample from the boulder known as "Humphrey." Scientists believe the rock was formed by magma as water ran through it. The water appears to have deposited mineral within the magma as it cooled.

Still, the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena (CA) says it looks like there was much less water at Spirit's site than at the area being surveyed by Opportunity. The search for water -- and for possible signs of life -- continues.
