Gogo Business Aviation Marks Millionth Internet-Connected Flight

Sees 38% Bump in Megabytes Used per Flight, 29% Increase in Flights

Gogo Business Aviation announced the passage of another milestone as they continue their march through the inflight internet market, boasting the completion of 1 million flights backed by the firm's internet connectivity services.

The AVANCE system, whether in its older L3 or cutting-edge L5 trim, has become the "most successful broadband product ever launched in business aviation, with 2,504 business aircraft flying with an AVANCE L5 or L3 system onboard,” according to Gogo spokesman William Davis. Gogo's launch of the Avance product line in 2017 has been quickly racking up the milestones, with increasing numbers of customers, a growing network, and improved coverage on the way every month of the year.

Of course, they've had a lot working for them, dealt a sweet hand with a pandemic-induced combination of soaring business aviation demand and a tidal shift towards online, remote work. That demand for high-speed, inflight internet has granted them considerable success in finding new customers willing to spend the not-inconsiderable outlay and monthly service payments required for a Gogo subscription. For the Avance L5, a clean-sheet installation of all necessary hardware comes in at an MSRP of $216,708. For the kind of clientele immersed in the industry, however, the internet isn't a luxury they can afford to forego.

Being able to run data-intensive applications, video calls, meetings, and file sharing while in flight generates productivity during what would otherwise be downtime. Gogo has seen a 38% increase in fleetwide data usage, with an increase in flights per day of almost 30%. Avance L5's 2 to 7+ Mbps speeds, low latency, and comprehensive network coverage are just a start, says the company. Gogo promises their upcoming 5G network will have ~25 Mbps on average, with peak speeds up to 80 Mbps to be launched in the 2nd half of 2022.

“Demand for connectivity is at an all-time high and Gogo is delivering a world-class experience for customers who are doing data-heavy activities while in flight,” said Sergio Aguirre, president of Gogo Business Aviation. “Avance continues to deliver across the widest variety of aircraft in business aviation from the Cirrus Vision Jet to ultralong-range global aircraft.”
