AeroCamp To Be Held In Greenville, SC July 16 - 20

First Time For The Airport To Host Such An Activity

AeroCamp, which is designed to give young people a unique opportunity to explore the vast and exciting world of aviation and aerospace at their local airport, will be held at Greenville Downtown Airport in Greenville, SC July 16-20.

The program was developed by the Flight School Association of North America. It is being sponsored locally at Greenville by FSANA Member Mint Air. "This is the first time AeroCamp has been offered in this region," said Alex Park, General Manager of Mint Air. "The closest place that I know of that offers it is in Ohio," he said.

The summer camp is designed for young adults in 6 to 12th grade, and no previous aviation experience required. According to the program, students will learn what makes an aircraft fly, how pilots use instruments, basic radio communication skills, about weather, rockettry, airport traffic patterns, basics of aeronautical charts and best of all 1 - 2 hours of actual flight time. This flight time can count towards future pilot training if the student wishes to continue.

AeroCamp will run from July 16 - 20 at the Greenville Downtown Airport from 0900-1500 each day. Only ten students will be in the session, but the organizers say more sessions can be added if the need arises.

"Our airport has never before offered a professional summer camp," stated Joe Frasher, Airport Director for the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU). "Through this camp experience, our local kids have a special opportunity to experience the science and awe of flight." (Pictured: Mathew Harmin, a 15 year old flight student from Greenville, SC)
