The latest skirmish in the battle over Santa Monica Airport is the filing of a complaint with the FAA by Atlantic Aviation, which is a fixed base operation on the field.

In its complaint, Atlantic Aviation says the city has not acted in good faith in negotiating a new, long-term lease with the business because of its long-held desire to close the airport. Atlantic leases 33 hangars from the city at the airport, which it subleases to aircraft owners and others, as well as office space, some of which is also subleased. According to the document submitted to the FAA, a policy adopted by the City Council in March that would nearly double its rent to $40,000 per month. A group of 10 aviation associations in Europe have issued a joint statement calling for the registration of all UAVs in Europe, similar to the FAA's registration program. However, they are asking for a 7 point program that would go further than the regulation and registration programs developed by the FAA. The associations point out that some regulations are in place but they’re looking for a more unified European drone regulation source. They are asking for An Extensive public awareness campaign and the registration of all drones. A new report from ASD-Reports forecasts that the global flight simulator market is projected to reach $7.54 Billion by 2021, which is a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 4.1% from 2016 to 2021.
