China's Air Force Sends Aerobatic Team To Singapore Air Show

Attending The Event Despite Coronavirus Travel Ban

While there have been multiple reports of exhibitors pulling out of the Singapore Air Show due to concerns about the coronavirus, the Chinese Air Force Aerobatics Team is not among them.

The Straits Times reports that despite the coronavirus travel ban, China's Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said on Thursday night that the participation of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force aerobatics team, called Ba Yi, was passed along to the relevant government agencies.

“After careful consideration and medical assessment, it was decided that the Ba Yi team can continue to participate in the Singapore Airshow 2020,” said the ministry.

Mindef said that the Ba Yi team has taken precautionary measures to assure they will not spread the virus to others attending the event. They underwent regular health checks and medical screenings before traveling to Singapore from Tianjin, China. The screenings continued during the military transport flight to Singapore, and the team's health will be monitored during their stay.

The team consists of nine aircraft supported by more than 100 personnel. "The Chinese personnel... are taking all necessary precautionary measures in line with existing guidelines while they are in Singapore," said a spokesman for Experia Events.
