United Shows Confidence In Dreamliner Repairs

Has Placed Passenger Flights On The Schedule For Late May

United Airlines is showing some confidence that Boeing's battery repair for the Dreamliner will be resolved by the Memorial Day Weekend. The airline has placed passenger flights for the 787 back on its schedule beginning May 31.

The schedule was noted first by the travel website Jaunted.com, which reported that United has scheduled the Dreamliner to fly between Houston and Denver beginning on that date. United spokesman Christen David told CNN that the airline is "in the process of formulating our domestic flying plans and will be making additional schedule changes as we gain visibility to the time for certification and modification work."

He said when a date for lifting the worldwide grounding of the fleet becomes more clear, United will make further adjustments to its schedule, according to a report appearing in USA Today.

The airline said it may launch its postponed Denver to Tokyo service with the Dreamliner June 10. It also plans to fly 787s from Houston to Heathrow on that same date.

United is the only U.S. carrier to have taken delivery of a Dreamliner, and has six that will need to have battery modifications done when they are approved by the FAA.
