...And One Of ANN's Own Is On The List!
Each month, the National
Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) announces their picks for
a very special breed of aviation educator. Each receives the honor
of Master Instructor -- and in August, NAFI recognized one of our
own.
In addition to his daily contribution of Aero-Tips -- and weekly
Aero-Craft audio segments -- Tom Turner (right) is one of THE
people to talk to on matters of aircraft systems and operation. In
fact, Tom is the Manager of Technical Services for the American
Bonanza Society.
In addition to his duties with ABS, Tom also operates Mastery
Flight Training in Wichita... so he knows a little something about
flight instruction, too.
In recognition of his accomplishments and skill in that area,
Tom has joined the elite ranks of the fewer than 500 Master
Instructors recognized by NAFI, out of approximately 90,000 CFIs
throughout the United States.

Tom is the manager of technical services with the American Bonanza
Society (ABS) in Wichita where he oversees all ABS aviation
education efforts. He also serves as an EAA flight advisor and is
an aviation writer as well as a lecturer.
"ANN has always been blessed by being able to work with some of
the most expert people in the aero-biz," says ANN Editor-In-Chief
Jim Campbell. "Tom Turner is a guy whose work I've greatly admired.
This guy is the real-deal -- the kind of person that pilots need to
listen to... especially in a system that grows more complex and
task-intensive with each passing day."
Other aviation
educators who earned the "Master" title during August are:
Troy Dale Brockway, Master
CFI
Salina, KS

Troy Brockway recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation. Troy
is an assistant professor as well as assistant chief flight
instructor for Kansas State University's aviation program at Salina
Airport (SLN). He is the faculty advisor for K-State's National
Intercollegiate Flying Association's (NIFA) flight team and is a
volunteer Young Eagles pilot.
Timothy Lee "Tim" Lemke, Master

Timothy Lemke recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation. Tim is
an independent flight instructor specializing in primary and
instrument training at the Appleton (ATW) and Oshkosh (OSH)
Airports. He also serves as president of the Oshkosh Pilots
Association and is a safety counselor for the Milwaukee FSDO.
Bobby Allen Mooring, Master
CFI
Mobile, AL
E-mail: bobbycfi@aol.com
Bobby Mooring recently earned his Master CFI accreditation for the
4th time. Bobby is the chief flight instructor with Flight Training
of Mobile, a Cessna Pilot Center at the Mobile Downtown Airport
(BFM). He also serves in the CAP's Alabama Wing and is a pilot
examiner as well as a safety counselor with the Birmingham
FSDO.
David Raye "Dave" Simeur, Master
CFI
El Paso, TX
E-mail: david@flitelite.com
David Simeur recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation. Dave is
an independent El Paso area fixed and rotary wing instructor as
well as manager of Momentum Interactive, an
aviation training software company. He is also a Customs
interdiction pilot with the Department of Homeland Security.
The Master Instructor designation is a national accreditation
recognized by the FAA that is earned by a candidate through a
rigorous process of continuing education and peer review.
Much like a flight instructor's certificate, it must be renewed
biennially. This process parallels continuing education
regimens used by other professionals to enhance their knowledge
base while increasing their professionalism.
We always knew you were a rare breed, Tom... we just didn't know
you were THIS rare. Well done, bud!
