Classic Aero-TV: Redbird's Cygnus - Enhancing Flight Simulation Capabilities

Sync Your iPad Apps With Redbird Simulators...

While at the Redbird Migration 2012, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, talked with Jerry Gregoire, the founder and chairman of Redbird Flight Simulations. The subject of this discussion was about allowing iPad apps to work with Redbird simulators so that simulator training can be linked to the iPad as a pilot would actually use it in flight.

The issue of allowing this to happen is that the iPad must “think” it is in the same location as the simulator and is flying along with the simulator. This is where Cygnus comes into the picture. Gregoire pointed out that trying to learn how to operate the sophisticated apps on PEDs while sitting at home or flying in a plane is not a good way to learn the operation. With Cygnus, operation of the app can be learned while flying the simulator which offers the advantage of real-time simulation for the PED.

While Cygnus was originally designed to operate in conjunction with Redbird simulators, it is also able to sync with other simulator devices including popular desktop simulators and simulation programs. During the video Gregoire explains how the system connects and operates, and you’ll see it in action.
