Clubs Will Hold a Show & Tell to Boost Funds for Future Activities, Competition
A handful of student clubs and teams will hold a little shindig of their own during their school's open campus day at Kansas State University Salina, next April 6th.
The "Flight Fest" will be put on by the Flight Team and Women's Air Race Team, featuring a WINGS seminar about Controlled Flight into Terrain, on the K-State Ramp of Salina Regional Airport. After the course, the event will take everyone along on a tour of the schools aeronautics program, followed by children's activities and a pancake breakfast. That last part is where they'll angle for donations to support the clubs, which are undoubtedly an expensive affair like all aviation seems to be. The team believes they get results though, Flight Team has made appearances at regional and national competitions, with the Women's team heading out on the upcoming summertime Air Race Classic. For future pilots, prospective students, or those looking to support their local clubs, the event is a nice chance to check out the Kansan birds and play with their simulators.
"Attendees will gain valuable knowledge and skills to effectively manage terrain-related challenges, such as terrain awareness, effective communication and adherence to standard operating procedures," said Sydney Oyer, senior in the professional pilot program and member of the Women's Air Race team, Gardner. "This proactive approach not only fosters a culture of safety within our school but also contributes to reducing accident rates and promoting professionalism within the aviation community. Ultimately, the seminar plays a vital role in safeguarding lives, protecting assets and upholding regulatory compliance standards in aviation operations."
Registration will be required for those who want some WINGS credit from the CFIT seminar. Attendees are welcome to park at AvFlight. The event runs on Saturday the 6th of April from 9 a.m to noon.
