International Skydiving Hall Of Fame Celebration Will Feature A Weekend Of Skydiving Activities
Online registration has been opened for the International Skydiving Hall of Fame Celebration event to be held September 21-23 at Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Rochelle, IL. The annual weekend fundraiser of jumping, celebration, catching up with old friends and making new ones, and chatting with skydiving’s legends has become the "go-to" event for the skydiving community, organizers say.
After a weekend of skydiving activities, the International Skydiving Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take center stage continuing the tradition of honoring legends, leaders and pioneers of our sport.
This year’s inductees are:
- Richard “Buzz” Bennett of Gibsons, BC, Canada;
- Roy C. Johnson (posthumous) formerly of Cape Coral, Florida;
- General John “Jack” Singlaub of Franklin, Tennessee;
- Graeme K. Windsor of Canberra, Australia; and,
- Pat Works (posthumous) formerly of Fullerton, California.
The International Skydiving Hall of Fame recognizes those individuals who through leadership, innovation and/or outstanding achievements, have defined, promoted, and advanced skydiving at the highest and sustained levels such that they have made it possible for generations of skydivers to enjoy the sport.
Each year, as part of our Hall of Fame Celebration Event, the weekend festivities include paying tribute to a group, team or entity that has been a major influence in the leadership, safety, camaraderie and growth of our sport. This year’s weekend honoree is PIA and its founding members. We will honor this visionary group, who in 1976, decided they should form a parachute business organization – Parachute Equipment Industry Association (PEIA). Now PEIA is PIA and what started out as a Riggers Convention in 1981 is now a Symposium attended by over a thousand people from around the world that showcases the latest in parachute technology and equipment.
More than 300 skydiving enthusiasts from around the world will be in attendance at the fundraiser which is expected to raise more than $100,000 for the museum.
