Greek Plane Given All-Clear After Bomb Threat

Alleged Explosive Device Was "For Saddam"

An Olympic Airlines Airbus A340 bound for Athens from New York was diverted to Shannon Airport early Sunday morning, following a telephone threat of a bomb on board "for Saddam" -- an apparent reference Friday's execution of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

The 183 passengers and 12 crew disembarked from the Greek aircraft while security experts searched the plane. Nothing was found and the all-clear was given several hours later.

"Unknown individuals speaking English with an Arab accent warned of the presence of a bomb on the plane, saying it was 'for Saddam,'" an airline spokesman said, adding two calls had been received at Athens airport early Sunday morning.
