Delta Air Lines Takes Big Hit In March Traffic

Combined System Traffic Plummets 12.6 Percent

As they say... the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Delta Air Lines reported Monday its combined systemwide traffic results in March fell 12.6 percent over comparable levels in 2008, while Delta and Northwest still operated as separate carriers.

That decrease came on a 7.9 percent decrease in capacity, indicating the falloff in passengers flying outpaced capacity cuts implemented over the past year. Load factor declined 4.4 points to 80.5 percent.

Domestic traffic decreased 11.1 percent year over year on an 8.6 percent decrease in capacity. Domestic load factor decreased 2.3 points to 82.4 percent. International traffic decreased 15.1 percent year over year on a 6.7 percent decrease in capacity, and load factor declined 7.7 points to 77.4 percent.
