Thieves Target Unusual Items Aboard AAL Jet

Who'd Want That Stuff?

This is one of those stories that, admittedly, has us scratching our pointed little heads.

The FAA is investigating the theft of some rather unusual items from an American Airlines aircraft on the ramp at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.

WCNC-TV reports the airline filed a police report Monday, saying someone had stolen an emergency forward slide galley cover and an emergency inflatable ramp chute. The theft apparently occurred sometime last weekend.

The FBI confirms those items have been found, but declined to say where.

While Airport Director Jerry Orr said the theft was indeed unusual, he was confident that nobody who wasn't authorized to be out on the ramp was able to penetrate security.
