KFD 840 PFD Available Now; KSN 770 MFD Coming In Q1 2009
Honeywell took the wraps off its Bendix/King Apex Edge Series, a
new line of IFR certified avionics for general aviation aircraft,
Monday at AirVenture 2008.
"The Bendix/King Apex Edge Series brings many of the advanced
technologies used in business aviation to the general aviation
operator, to enhance situational awareness and simplify avionics
operations," said Dan Barks, Director, General Aviation Aftermarket
Avionics. "Included is unique graphical flight planning
functionality, cursor control, Honeywell INAV technology and other
features from the Primus Apex™ Integrated Flight Deck."
The first two units in the new Apex Edge Series are the KSN 770
Integrated Navigation and Communication Multi-Function Display,
with a MSRP of $13,995, and the KFD 840 Primary Flight Display
(PFD) with a MSRP $16,995.
"Honeywell will begin taking orders this week for the KFD 840,
with deliveries commencing at the end of the year," Barks said. "We
will begin taking orders for the KSN 770 starting in October, with
deliveries commencing in the first quarter of 2009."
The KSN 770 offers the latest in digital
Navigation/Communication radio technology, a full WAAS (Wide Area
Augmentation System) GPS navigator, a 5.7-inch VGA display with
industry-leading brightness and viewing angles, and a modern
upgradeable hardware architecture with the ability to be field
upgradeable. The KSN770 will interface with external safety sensors
including traffic and datalink weather. In addition, optional
features and associated MSRPs include integrated Class-B TAWS
(Terrain Awareness and Warning System) for $6,995, 16-Watt COMM for
$4,295, digital radar interface for $4,695, and Jeppessen
Electronic Charts for $2,195. The KSN 770 will be certified for all
general aviation aircraft.
The KFD 840 provides primary flight information on a large
8.4-inch diagonal high-resolution display. The large display
provides pilots instant, at-a-glance situational awareness. The
unit integrates an advanced Air Data Attitude Heading and Reference
System (ADAHRS) designed to operate without GPS or other sensor
aiding. In addition, the KFD 840 will operate with many common
autopilots and NAV/GPS units, including the WAAS/LPV capable KSN
770. The KFD 840 includes features such as a remote magnetometer,
aircraft checklist, and weight and balance calculator. Both the
weight and balance calculator and the aircraft checklist can be
customized by the aircraft owner. The KFD 840 will be certified
with an Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate
(AML-STC), covering a wide range of aircraft weight less than 6,000
pounds gross weight.
Honeywell offers a global service and support network for the
new Apex Edge Series for the entire service life of the systems,
beginning with a two-year comprehensive standard warranty. Extended
warranty coverage will be available through the Honeywell Avionics
Protection Program. Honeywell will support its worldwide network of
dealers by offering a trade-in program for customers who choose to
replace select legacy panel mount radios and GPS devices.
The company will demonstrate the Apex Edge line at Oshkosh, at
Honeywell's booth in Hangar B, #2081-2086.
