Hebei Jianxin Flying Car Tech Company Snags License to Corner the CDM for AirCar and AirCar Derived Aircraft
The BMW-powered AirCar by Klein Vision has been licensed to a chinese manufacturer, the Hebei Jianxin Flying Car Technology Company, for sale in their home market.
The deal has been met with some misunderstandings and raised eyebrows, as is often the case when a fledgling aircraft design is so quickly scooped up into the maw of Chinese industry on the cusp of release. The AirCar is far enough along in the development process to get plenty of flying footage, to the point of getting a certificate of airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority. The design strikes a balance between supercar and vintage fighter, with a mid-engined, pusher-prop powered by a mogas-burning BMW plant. The whole design is probably a more livable option than most other "flying cars", which are generally much more compact, 3-wheeled trikes with folding aerofoils and a cabin.
Since getting its airworthiness approval in 2022, however, the Klein Vision team doesn't appear to be getting much interest from its home market, and having more than "100,000 hours" in the certification process alone, they're understandably anxious to see some return on their investment. Enter Hebei, a Chinese concern that has already begun collecting some crown jewels to foster a domestic flight industry in its own backyard.
"We are pleased to announce the sale of the licence for our certified flying car technology to the esteemed Chinese company," said Stefan Klein, the namesake founder of KleinVision.
"This partnership represents a significant step in our mission to expand global access to revolutionary mobility solutions and drive progress in the industry," added Anton Zajac, Klein's SIC and co-founder at KleinVision.
Under the deal, Hebei will be allowed to build on the AirCar design and sell their derivatives in their own Chinese Domestic Market, holding exclusive rights to manufacture and operate such aircraft under their purview.
