Zenith's Original STOL CH 701 Gets New Powerplant

Classic Kit Plane Now Offers An 85-HP Jabiru 2200 Engine.

Light aircraft kit manufacturer Zenith Aircraft Company has partnered with JabiruUSA to offer the STOL CH 701 aircraft kit bundled together with the complete firewall-forward installation for the Jabiru 2200 aircraft engine, including basic instruments (a basic digital EIS and flight instruments).

Zenith CH 701

Priced at $29,980 the Zenith STOL CH 701 kit with Jabiru 2200 engine package includes the complete easy-to-build all-metal STOL CH 701 kit (airframe and finishing kits), the 85-hp direct-drive, air-cooled Jabiru 2200 aircraft engine, the complete firewall-forward package for the engine installation (including cowl, engine mount, exhaust and propeller), and basic instruments, making this a very attractively priced complete airplane kit project.  The STOL CH 701 kit is complete, and comes with factory-riveted wing spars, CNC cut and drilled skins, factory welded fuel tanks, gear with hydraulic disk brakes, assembly hardware, and more.

"In today's uncertain economy, many kit builders want to know how much their kit aircraft project will cost before they start building," explained Sebastien Heintz, Zenith Aircraft's president:  "At  under thirty thousand dollars, the STOL CH 701 project is an excellent value, while also being one of the easiest and quickest kit projects to build on the market today.  The four-cylinder Jabiru engine provides fantastic performance in the 701, while still offering owners a brand-new four-cycle aircraft engine."

The STOL CH 701 is a very popular short take-off and landing (STOL) kit plane:  First introduced in 1986, the two-seat all-metal design from aeronautical engineer Chris Heintz has become one of the most popular light kit aircraft designs in existence, with an estimated 1,000 completed and flying around the world.  The high wing design combines the features and advantages of a "real" airplane with the short-field capabilities of an "ultralight" aircraft.  The light sport utility STOL CH 701 is a boxy "sky jeep" designed to be easy to build and maintain, with unique features such as fixed leading-edge wing slats, full length flaperons, and large tail control surfaces for excellent slow flight and STOL capabilities.  The aircraft is equipped with a rugged tricycle landing gear for off-airport operations.

Jabiru 2200 Engine

With the Jabiru 2200 engine installed, the STOL CH 701 boasts excellent S.T.O.L. performance while being very economical to operate.   Take-off roll is less than 100 feet and rate of climb is an impressive 800 fpm.  Cruise performance is 80 mph, and stall speed is 30 mph.  And, since the design meets the definition of an LSA, it can be operated with the Sport Pilot certificate.
