NASA Awards Cooperative Agreement For Internships

Between Three And 10 Million Dollars Allocated To Support The Program

NASA's Office of Education has awarded a cooperative agreement to the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) to support the agency's education internship programs. The award is valued at an estimated at $3 million and $10 million per year, depending on options. The period of performance will not exceed five years.

The agreement covers NASA's Minority University Research and Education Program (MUREP) and the Space Grant Program, which provide internship opportunities to qualified STEM students and educators.

This agreement may include support to the National Science Foundation, which implements other internship programs throughout the federal government, as outlined in the president's budget request for fiscal year 2014.

USRA is a recognized leader in administering educational opportunities for students and teachers that lead to employment with NASA and the broader aerospace industry requiring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) expertise.

NASA's stated education goals include:

  • Strengthening NASA and the Nation's future workforce
  • Attracting and retaining students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, disciplines
  • Engaging Americans in NASA's mission

NASA's education programs support the country’s educators who play a key role in preparing, inspiring, exciting, encouraging, and nurturing the young minds of today who will be the workforce of tomorrow.
