Moment Introduces Anamorphic Lense For DJI Drones

Allows Wider Field Of View, Cinematic Lens Flares

Moment, a company which is best known for making add-on lenses for smartphones, is expanding its product line to include an anamorphic lens for DJI drones.

The Verge reports that the company launched a Kickstarter campaign for the lens this week. It will clip to the existing camera installed on DJI Mavic 2 Pro or Mavic 2 Zoom aircraft, allowing the camera to capture a wider field of view and has the capability to add cinematic lens flares to videos captured by the drones.

Moment says it was able to fly a Mavic 2 Pro drone in heavy winds with the lens attached with no effect on the aircraft's performance.

The company says that it reduced the weight of its existing anamorphic lens by changing the housing from metal to plastic but maintaining the same glass. The company says it weighs less than 50 grams including a counterweight. On the downside, the lens must be attached each time you use the drone, and it doesn't work well at all focal lengths, according to the report.

Moment plans to ship the lenses to its first customers in November. The Kickstarter price is $199, and it will sell at retail for $300, according to the company.
