North Dakota Man Wins Refurbished 1964 Skylane

Entered A Raffle At The Fargo Air Museum

How often has this happened. You buy a raffle ticket or enter a contest in some other way, drop the entry into the box, and promptly forget about it. Rarely do you get a call saying "you've won," but that's exactly what happened to Jason Hill of Jamestown, ND. And the prize was a refurbished 1964 Cessna 182 Skylane (similar airplane pictured in file photo).

Hill was visiting family in Fargo, ND, and had taken his five-year-old niece to the Fargo Air Museum because she wanted to see the airplanes, according to a report in the Jamestown Sun. He paid $50 for the raffle ticket for which the airplane was the top prize. The paper reports that the airplane was donated to the museum about two years ago, and proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards a museum expansion, according to Rex Hammarback, chair of the Fargo Air Museum board.

As for the airplane ... its sporting a new paint job, Garmin navigation, and a nearly-completely-refurbished interior.

The 34-year-old winner is a smoke jumper with the National Forest Service. He was not able to be at the airport when his "new" plane was delivered because of his work schedule. He plans to use the plane to get his private pilot certificate. It was flown to Jamestown Regional Airport last Friday by Hammarback, but because of his job, Hill likely won't see more than a picture of the Skylane until he returns home in October.
