Sporty's 2004 Sweepstakes Winner Solos Sweepstakes Skyhawk

Pilot: Flight Was "Uneventful" (Oh, Yeah... He's Going To Fit Right In!)

Two months after taking delivery of his brand-new Cessna Skyhawk, Sporty's 2004 Sweepstakes winner A.C. "Doug" Douglass has successfully soloed at Tallahassee Regional Airport. Douglass described the flight as "uneventful."

"Uneventful" is a description flight instructors worldwide appreciate when talking about a solo flight. However, "uneventful" doesn't mean "unexciting." Douglass says, "With my wife, Pat, and my flight instructor, Scott O'Brien, watching, I managed to take off and land three times alone in the airplane. It was a beautiful day, calm wind, unlimited visibility, and few other planes in the air." He adds, "Even though he was not in the plane, I could hear Scott giving me instructions as I flew the pattern."

Douglass says he is eager to earn his private certificate so that he can take his wife flying. He says, "I realize how much more I have to learn and the daunting tasks ahead. I can see the people supporting me are capable and willing to prepare me for what's ahead."

The 2005 Sporty's Sweepstakes airplane will mark the 20th anniversary of Sporty's Sweepstakes and will be awarded on September 14, 2005 to a lucky Sporty's customer. This brand-new Skyhawk is the 150,000th single-engine airplane produced by Cessna Aircraft.
