Governor Proclaims August 19-25 As AFW-WA Week
Aero-News has learned Angel Flight
West (AFW) -- Washington Wing will celebrate its landmark
10th anniversary in Walla Walla, WA. The AFW mission is to help
Washington citizens in need of access to health care and other
compelling human needs by arranging free air transportation on
private aircraft. This objective is primarily met by linking the
280 plus volunteer private pilots and supporters in the state with
people in special need whose non-emergency health care problems
require travel to and from medical facilities throughout
Washington.
Angel Flight West -- Washington Wing volunteer pilots donate the
cost of all flights as well as their time, money and services.
These pilots make significant contributions that result in
tremendous service to others, improvements in access to health
care, the meeting of human needs with compassion, and the
preparedness to respond to disasters that impact Washington and
its' residents.
Michael Nanko, Ph.D., AFW Executive Director states that "5,530
individuals have been successfully served and more than 3,000
missions flown by the Washington Wing. This week we honor those
individuals who have served these past ten years." Nanko continues,
"Angel Flight West is also prepared to respond to disasters in the
Pacific Northwest as the largest volunteer, charitable aviation
organization in the world. And with our partner organizations in
Air Charity Network, we represent over 90 percent of all charitable
aviation flights in America. AFW has flown well over 30,000
missions since its inception in 1983."
In celebration of its anniversay, Washington Governor Christine
O. Gregoire proclaimed August 19-25, 2007 as Angel Flight West --
Washington Wing Recognition Week. Governor Gregoire urged all
Washington citizens to join her in recognizing and supporting those
who serve as volunteer members of the Angel Flight West Washington
Wing.
Angel Flight West pilots receive no compensation for any
volunteer flight. Angel Flight West -- Washington Wing relies
solely on community support to continue and expand its mission.
