NASA Extends Contracts For Multiple Facilities

Exercises Options For Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, Space Vehicle Mockup Facility Operations

NASA has exercised the second option of its Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL)/Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF) Operations Contract (NSOC) with Raytheon Technical Services Company of Houston. The contract is to provide continued support of operations, training and mission planning and maintenance at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The current potential value of the contract, including the approximately $27 million one-year option that starts Oct. 1, is $128.9 million. This is a cost-plus-award-fee and incentive fee, plus indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract.

The NSOC fulfills requirements to operate, maintain, and provide sustaining engineering for two human space flight training facilities located at Johnson. The NBL supports spacewalk training for astronauts by providing an underwater environment to simulate microgravity. The SVMF provides full-scale training mockups for flight crews and support personnel along with high-fidelity hardware for real-time mission support for the International Space Station and Orion Programs.
