Company Claims Reduced Float Drag With New Paint

Product Designed To Be Environmentally Friendly

A new product for the floatplane industry has been introduced by HullSpeed Performance Marine Coatings. Called "FloatSpeed," the new coating is designed for marine and amphibious float plane applications, and the company says it combines drag reduction and pro-environment properties to improve the performance of seaplane floats.

FloatSpeed is a water-based epoxy/silicone chemistry that is eco-friendly and easily applied in one day with roll or spray equipment. Similar to the texture and aerodynamics of a golf ball, FloatSpeed’s modular surface creates ideal surface release and drag reduction for improved hydrodynamic performance. The textured surface minimizes the need to create a chop during smooth water conditions and allows for quicker and easier rise to step.

The company claims that FloatSpeed paint creates a high release, low drag surface for improved water speed, rise to step and take off distance. In addition to providing improvements in float performance, FloatSpeed helps to deter the adhesion of aquatic invasive species which significantly reduces lake to lake transfer.

“After coating my Aerocet 3400 amphibious floats with FloatSpeed I noticed a significant improvement in rise to step, surface release and take off distance," said Cessna 206 owner Fil Fina. "Landings were also smoother and more stable.”
