PHI Introduces Air Medical Pilot Training Course

Designed Specifically To Prepare Pilots for Unique Air Medical Environments

PHI began the first session of its rigorous Professional Air Medical Pilot Training Course in Lafayette this month to prepare pilots for the unique situations that occur regularly in EMS rotor-wing transports.

"This course is the first of its kind in the air medical industry and will set new standards for pilot preparation. We are instituting this course because we recognize the need for distinct experience and skills in order to maintain the highest levels of safety and success in our air medical programs," according to Chuck LaCelle, Operations Manager, PHI Air Medical Group.

The pilot training is an intense four week course that includes emphases on decision making, instrument flying and IMC Avoidance, conflict resolution, crew resource management, and actual scene response flight scenarios.

The course also includes preparation for an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.

Howard Ragsdale, Director, PHI Air Medical Group said, "Offering this training is consistent with our goal of seeking ways to continue providing safe, quality air medical transport services around the country."
