Classic Aero-TV: Silent Falcon UAS – A Solar-Electric Unmanned Aircraft

From 2015 (YouTube Version): XPO Has Become A Nexus For Amazing Unmanned Technologies!

While at the Unmanned Systems 2015 Conference, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, stops to talk with a company that is displaying an aircraft hanging from the ceiling. It’s called the Silent Falcon.

John Brown is the CEO of Silent Falcon UAS Technologies, and he explained that this vehicle combines solar and battery power. Brown says it would be classified as a small UAV that weighs about 30 pounds and has a wingspan of around 13 feet. Brown explains that the concept is to develop an aircraft that has extraordinarily long endurance, and good payload capability, without going to the expense of a gasoline engine powered aircraft.

During the interview, Brown goes on to describe the probable uses of this aircraft. He pointed out that its operation is fully autonomous, and said with a chuckle, the only two we have lost have occurred when we turned it over to an RC pilot on the ground. He also points out that it is designed for quiet operation which is important in either a military operation or if being used in wildlife surveillance.

As the conversion continues about other technical issues, the video provides you with great action clips of this UAV in operation.
