Law Firm Recovers Over One Billion Dollars In Air Cargo Price Fixing Litigation

With A $99 Million Settlement, EVA Air Is The 27th Defendant To Exit The Case

EVA Air has agreed to pay $99 million to direct purchasers of air cargo shipping services to settle a lawsuit that has totaled over a billion dollars from 27 defendants.

The Hausfeld law firm announced Wednesday that it had reached the settlement on behalf of the class in the Air Cargo Shipping Services Antitrust Litigation, which is pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

"We are proud of what we have accomplished in this case so far: obtaining over a billion dollars in compensation for the victims of this seven-year cartel," said Brent Landau, Partner at Hausfeld

The case continues against the four airline defendants remaining in the case: Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, and Polar Air Cargo and its parent Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings. In October 2014, the magistrate judge issued a 114-page opinion recommending certification of the class. Nearly half of the original defendants in the civil action brought by Hausfeld and other law firms have pled guilty to a conspiracy to fix the price of shipping goods by air to and from the United States. The plaintiffs allege that the cartel increased global shipping prices.
