Tiny New Mexican Pueblo Hopes To Land Big Utilicraft Plant

Building On Eclipse Victory

San Juan Pueblo (NM) really wants to make airplanes. Specifically, the town wants to make American Utilicraft airplanes at a factory town officials hope the company will plant on their doorstep.

"We've got an agreement in principal to do everything in our power to build them a facility to do their manufacturing here," said economic development director Ron Lovato. "It would be big."

Lovato, CEO of Tsay Corporation, which is the economic development coordinator for San Juan Pueblo, says he's been talking with the Lawrenceville (GA) company for "quite some time."

One way or the other, American Utilicraft will build in New Mexico, anxious to follow in the profitable footsteps of Eclipse. As ANN reported earlier this week, the jet-maker has agreed to build in Albuquerque, prompted by millions of dollars in tax abatements and other incentives.

New Mexico really wants to build planes. More specifically, New Mexico really wants the jobs that go with building planes. And aviation manufacturers seem to be drawn there by the clear, dry weather.
