Oregon Aero To Unveil Its 'Skydancer' In Lakeland

Husband & Wife Team Will Perform Aerobatics, Skywriting

Looking forward to the sensory overload of this year's upcoming airshows? The roar of the engines, with the smells of jet fuel, smoke, and oil mingling with the aromas of frying foods and suntan lotion? The incomparable sight of manmade machines glinting in the sun while dancing through the air at breakneck speeds and daring trajectories?

ANN staffers are noticeably drooling at the very thought of it... but truth is, none of these sensations would be possible without the support of title sponsors who provide the financial and product support that enable airshow pilots to deliver their phenomenal performances to airshow enthusiasts.

Oregon Aero is the latest company to jump onboard the sponsorship bandwagon, and the company's first venture brings together two of the most respected performers in the airshow community with a respected manufacturer of aviation-related products, infusing new energy into both entities.

Steve Oliver and Suzanne Asbury-Oliver (below) are renowned airshow performers, the world’s only husband-and-wife aerobatic and skywriting duo since 1980, and recipients of the prestigious International Council of Airshows (ICAS) Sword of Excellence Award. For the past 25 years, they have been recognized as pilots of the Pepsi SkyDancer.

Those attending the upcoming Lakeland show will be among the first to set eyes on the Oregon Aero SkyDancer, newly painted with the SkyDancer’s signature red, white and blue checkerboard theme and adorned with Oregon Aero graphics.

A custom interior upgrade in blue leather with red stitching showcases Oregon Aero's specialty in aircraft seating.

Steve is scheduled to fly the Oregon AeroSM SkyDancer on Friday, April 7 (SkyDancer aerobatics), Friday night (FireDancer pyrobatics), plus Saturday and Sunday (aerobatics). Suzanne may also perform the nostalgic art of skywriting, as weather permits.

Otherwise, the SkyDancer will be on static display for close-up viewing. Steve and Suzanne will visit with fans, both by their super-modified de Havilland Chipmunk (top) and at the Oregon Aero booth #A40-42, where enthusiasts can collect autographed hero cards, SkyDancer trading cards and other souvenirs.

Visitors will also enjoy meeting Pax, the canine SkyDancer mascot.
