Sustainability Leaders To Learn Of 'Breakthrough Improvements'
United Technologies is showcasing Pratt & Whitney's PurePower Geared Turbofan engine to attendees at this year's Sustainable Brands conference.
Reaching new sustainability milestones relative to conventional engines, the Geared Turbofan engine lowers fuel consumption by 16 percent while also delivering a 50 percent reduction in regulated emissions and a 75 percent reduction in noise footprint.
Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies (UTC), invested two decades and $10 billion to develop this game-changing engine technology and bring it to the industry. The result is the world's most sustainable large commercial jet engine, which is now powering commercial flights with airlines on two continents.
"This engine changes everything. The Geared Turbofan engine is cleaner, greener and quieter than anything available in the industry today," said UTC Chief Sustainability Officer John Mandyck. "The Geared Turbofan engine is the culmination of our dream to push the boundaries of science, technology and ingenuity."
UTC is offering a variety of related activities at Sustainable Brands for those looking to learn more about the engine known as #TheGreenEngine. Daily presentations will provide attendees with up-close views of the engine and detailed explanations of the breakthrough innovations that led to the engine's outstanding performance. In addition, UTC will offer attendees a virtual reality exploration of the inner workings of the Geared Turbofan engine.
Sustainable Brands 2016 brings together representatives from many of the world's largest global brands, entrepreneurs, NGOs, investors and academia – all with a focus on advancing sustainability. United Technologies is a gold sponsor of the conference.
