Major League Pitcher Missed Start Due To Drone Injury

Rotor Blade Cut Trevor Bauer On His Throwing Hand

What might be seen as a minor drone accident caused a change in the pitching rotation for a Major League Baseball team vying for a spot in the World Series.

Cleveland Indians starter Trevor Bauer reportedly missed his start last Saturday because he injured his right hand while working on his drone.

In a news release, the Indians said that Bauer, a right-hander, "suffered a laceration to his right small ("pinkie") finger which required several stitches. Trevor is scheduled to start Game 3 at Toronto on Monday, October 17."

Unmanned Aerial Online reports that the injury occurred while Bauer, who has been a long-time drone hobbyist, was working on his aircraft and his hand was injured during that maintenance.

Last year, Bauer used a drone he'd built himself to take pictures over Goodyear Park in Arizona, but Major League Baseball reportedly sent a message to the Indians saying he should leave his drone at home for the ALCS.

However, the pitcher brought the aircraft with him to the news conference that was held to announce his injury and the pitching change. Bauer said the injury was a "non issue", and that he is able to "throw normally" despite the stitches on his pitching hand.

But that was not the case. Bauer faced only four batters and was pulled from game three of the series after he was observed bleeding from his right hand. The Indians, however went on to win that game against the Blue Jays, and eventually a spot in the fall classic.
