United Continental, Delta Hike International Baggage Fee$

Slight Discount For Delta Online Check-In Also Dumped

Two of the nation's largest airlines are charging more for a second bag on a trans-Atlantic flight. United Continental and Delta moved in lock-step to boost second bag fees on those flights. United Continental raised its second bag fee to $70, while Delta raised its fee to $60 for online check-in and $75 if passengers wait until they get to the airport.

The fee on both airlines for a second bag had been $50.

Delta had a couple of other new fee changes up its sleeve. They have added a $30 bag fee for a second checked bag going to Mexico or Central America. That had previously been checked at no cost. The Associated Press reports that the airline has also dropped its small discount for checking the first bag online on domestic flights.

Delta defended that change to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by saying none of its main competitors had such a discount. The first checked bag fee on Delta remains $25, while a second bag will cost a passenger $35.
