Nineteen Cats Too Many For Lufthansa To Check

So, The Person Who Brought Them To The Airport Abandoned 15, Causing A Bomb Scare

A 44-year-old American man could face animal cruelty charges after he allegedly tried to check 19 cats on to his Lufthansa flights from Fiumicino Airport in Rome to New York, Italy's ANSAnews agency reports.

His plans went awry when the airline told him that it would accept no more than four cats. So, according to ANSA, the man checked the four cats he was allowed and abandoned the remaining 15 at the airport. And, as if that wasn't enough, he also reportedly sparked a bomb scare at the airport after he left behind kitty litter and other luggage. The Post adds that even though the man left for the United States, he "could still be charged in his absence by Italian police with mistreating animals."

The New York Post reports that Lufthansa would only confirm that an incident similar to the one described did take place at its check-in counter in Rome, but had no other information.
