Two Indonesian Planes Collide During Air Show Practice

Both Pilots Manage To Eject Safely Following Accident

Two KT-1B aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force's Jupiter aerobatics team collided in mid-air Sunday while practicing for the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2015 exhibition.

The KT-1B is a turboprop trainer manufactured by Korea Aerospace Industries.

The Malaysian Insider reports that a spokesman for the Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department said that six airplanes were flying over the Mahsuri International Exhibition Center when the accident occurred. The two planes involved went down outside the airport area.

The International Business Times reports that both pilots managed to eject and land safely. The accident and ensuing fire set at least two houses ablaze, according to the report. Debris was found scattered over a wide area, the report continued.

The aerial displays were halted after the accident, according to the International Business Times. LIMA '15 is scheduled for March 17-21.
