Control Tower For Sale On eBay

Has Been Refurbished Into A 'Man Cave' By Its Current Owner

You never know what you're going to find if you just browse the online auction site eBay.

Take, for instance, a used air traffic control tower that is up for sale from its current owner for a minimum bid of $8,000. In the product description, the owner says that the tower, which is made largely of aluminum, was "originally installed at an airport." He bought it and transported the structure, which is a little over 32 feet tall, on a flatbed truck to his home.

There, he converted the cab into something of a man cave. He will include the "custom built" sofa built into the cab, some roll-up sun shades, as well as the rope lights he used to decorate it for Christmas. He says the pedestal of the structure is wired for 200 amp service, and the cab has lots of electrical outlets and a working air conditioner. He has installed an emergency escape door in the cab as well.

The structure bolts to a concrete pad at six corners using 12 3/4 anchor bolts, and the seller says it has withstood 80 miles per hour winds at his location.

The structure weighs just under 10,000 pounds. The seller said that it is worth more than the reserve he is asking in scrap aluminum, but also says that it would be a great landmark for a business, or something to install at a lakefront property.

The auction is set to end May 16th at 6:14 pm PDT. As of Monday morning, there were no bids on the structure.
