FAA Releases Super Bowl 50 Procedures

Be Sure To Check Notams If You'll Be Flying In NorCal Next Week

If you plan on flying in or around the San Francisco Bay, Napa Valley, and/or Monterey Peninsula metropolitan areas in early February, be sure you check Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) for information about temporary flight restrictions and special security provisions for Super Bowl 50 that could affect your flight.

The FAA created a resource page that provides a list of airports with arrival and departure route requirements and links to airport-specific NOTAMs. Heavy demand and traffic management initiatives may be expected between Feb. 4, and Feb. 8, 2016, and due to the high volume of traffic, certain practice approaches and pilot operations in the area may be limited or suspended.

The FAA will implement a TFR prior to start of the game on Feb. 7, which will remain in effect after the game ends. While the TFR is active, general aviation operations will be prohibited within a 10-nautical mile radius of the stadium. TFR information is normally disseminated via FDC NOTAM three to five days prior to the big game.

Once published, text and graphic depictions of restrictions may be found here. It is recommended you check NOTAMs frequently during the event for any possible changes.
