Man Arrested After Nearly Driving His Car Into A Helicopter

Aircraft Was Running And Preparing For Takeoff

An Athens, GA man has been arrested in Allegheny County, PA for allegedly nearly crashing his car into a helicopter preparing for takeoff from St. Clair Hospital.

Television Station WPXI reports that the incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. Sunday outside the hospital's emergency room. Eric Logan, 50, allegedly drove into the ER parking lot at high speed, swerved around a stopped vehicle, and jumped a sidewalk before stopping inches from the idling STAT MedEvac helicopter.

Police said Logan appeared to be suffering from a mental health issue. He reportedly got out of his car appeared to be running towards the helicopter pilot.

He was stopped by hospital security and handcuffed before police arrived.

Logan has been charged with risking a catastrophe, obstructing emergency services, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, unauthorized use of motor vehicle and driving without a license.

The pilot shut down the aircraft and was not injured in the incident.
