Aero-TV: Superior's Gemini Diesel - An Idea Whose Time Has Come?

Superior Is Starting At 100HP And Working Their Way Up!

While at Sun ‘n Fun 2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, talked with Scott Hayes, the vice president of sales and markings for Superior Air Parts.

Jim’s questions related to their Gemini diesel engine.

Jim asked why Superior is bringing a small diesel engine to the forefront. Hayes said they are motivated by the requirement in all parts of the world for better fuel economy and an engine that can burn the more prevalent diesel capable fuels. He said the Gemini Diesel is the answer to both of these requirements.

Hayes explains that they intend to start the Gemini line of engines with the hundred horsepower version and then progress to higher powered derivatives as airframe manufacturers show an interest.

At the time of our interview, the Gemini is in the prototype stage, and engines are ready to be installed in a light sport type aircraft for evaluation. They expect that production engines will be available by the 2nd quarter of 2016.

The Gemini is more than simply a diesel engine; it’s an entirely new technology, and this video provides a great introduction to what could be the future of general aviation powerplants.
