Approved: Elite RTF-B (Ready-To-Fly) Portable BASIC ATD

ELITE Simulation Solutions has received FAA approval of its RTF-B portable Aviation Training Device (ATD). The new RTF-B Basic ATD is the first such system specifically designed to provide practical portability and is the latest addition in ELITE's fleet of approved training devices.

The RTF-B is a complete, self-contained, portable training system based on the popular PI-135 Basic ATD. It includes integrated LCD monitor, avionics panel, and flight console as well as separate rudder and travel case. The system's custom hard-shell travel case features fitted foam inserts for maximum protection and a TSA lock for security and convenience. The case has been designed with wheels and retractable handle for easy portability and meets commercial air travel size and weight restrictions. Once removed from its case the RTF-B is ready to fly in minutes.

The brain of the system is a laptop computer that is securely stowed in a built-in compartment within the flight console along with all required cables. The laptop is taken out of its compartment when the device is set up and doubles as the system's graphical instructor station. The RTF-B is FAA certified as a Basic ATD and can be used to log 2.5 hrs toward the Private, 10 hrs toward the Instrument, and to perform the approaches, holding procedures, and intercepting/tracking required under CFR 14 section 61.57(c)(1) for recent instrument experience (instrument currency).

"We've received numerous requests over the years from instructors and training organizations for a system that is both portable and FAA approved," says Fred Zanegood, ELITE Director of Marketing.

"The RTF-B is the result of these requests and the culmination of engineering efforts to make a system that is lightweight and portable, yet rugged enough to withstand the rigors of travel. The RTF-B is perfect for the instructor on the go or for anyone that would like the freedom of a portable training system. Freelance instructors will enjoy the RTF-B's versatility and several organizations have already shown interest in the system for remote on-site training. We're also seeing the possibility of new emerging business models as operators make the RTF-B available to students, pilots, and instructors for rental by the hour, day, week, or month."
