IAF Pilot Becomes First Female Squadron Commander

Female Pilot Is A 'Role Model And Inspiration' To Other Women, IAF Commander Says

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has its first female squadron commander. Lt. Col. G is a "role model and inspiration to thousands of women" in Israel, said Israeli Air Force Commander Amiram Norkin.

The newspaper Israel Hayom reports that Lt. Col. G assumed command of the squadron on Wednesday. Now 35 years old, she enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces in 2003. She completed the Israeli Air Forces' training course, specializing in piloting transport aircraft.

From 2015 to 2017, G. served as deputy commander of the Nachshon Squadron, which operates surveillance aircraft.

Lt. Col. G is the mother of two sons.

"Well done, our first operational squadron commander in the air force. We have been waiting for this for 71 years," Norkin said.
