Asiana Offering Payments To Flight 214 Passengers

Initial Compensation Of $10,000 Offered To The 288 Survivors

Asiana Airlines is reportedly offering $10,000 to each of the 288 people who survived the Flight 214 accident in San Francisco. The airline said the payments were being offered as initial compensation to help out with passengers’ urgent medical needs.

The San Francisco Examiner reports that Asiana said that the $10,000 is a "minimum payment we are offering all passengers, regardless of whether they were injured or not." The airline said the offer is not a settlement, and will not affect any lawsuits filed in connection with the accident.

A group of 83 passengers has filed a suit against Boeing seeking millions in damages. Their suit may later be expanded to name Asiana as a defendant.

Asiana said those passengers who were relatively unharmed and who may be deemed to be entitled to less than $10,000 compensation will still be allowed to keep the entire amount.
