Southwest 737 Blows Two Tires On Takeoff Roll

Passengers 'Anxious,' Delayed Two Hours, But No Injuries

It's great to find an end-of-year blowout at your local car dealer, but on an airline flight, not so much, especially on takeoff. Passengers were described as "anxious" Tuesday when Southwest Airlines Flight 2287 had both left main gear tires blow as the 737 was departing Sacramento International Airport for Seattle.

Airport Spokeswoman Laurie Slothower tells KXTV in Sacramento the plane aborted the takeoff. Katie McDonald of Southwest Airlines adds emergency crews were called in to hose down the 737 as a precaution, and portable stairs were brought in to let the passengers disembark.

Slothower says there was no fire, and there were no injuries. The passengers who had been booked on the aborted 1815 PST flight were bused to the terminal to wait for another flight to Seattle, which departed at 2045.

KXTV reports the plane had previously made a hard landing, but there has been no official confirmation or other word on the cause of the incident. One runway at Sacramento was briefly closed, but no delays to other flights resulted.
