FAA To Distribute Best Practices Guide To Owners Of Aging Aircraft

Care And Feeding Of Warbirds, Other Aging Legends

During an EAA-facilitated type club meeting at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (WI), the FAA announced plans to distribute its Best Practices Guide for Maintaining Aging General Aviation Airplanes. This document, which will be mailed primarily to all U.S. owners of small, single-engine vintage aircraft, provides excellent guidance for type clubs to use for developing checklists and other information specific to a model type. EAA, along with several other aviation organizations, contributed to and endorse the guide.

Attending this year's annual type club meeting at the recently concluded Oshkosh event were FAA Administrator Marion Blakey; Associate Administrator Nick Sabatini; Director of the Small Aircraft Directorate Mike Gallagher; Head of Aircraft Certification John Hikey; Head of Flight Standards Jim Ballough; and others.

At EAA AirVenture, aging aircraft owner/type club leaders are able to refer questions and concerns to the FAA leadership who are in a position to take action. Likewise, FAA officials whose responsibility includes aging aircraft are able to accomplish more and gather more information during one week here than they otherwise could in months, maybe even years from their office in Oklahoma City (OK) or Washington, (DC).
