United MEC Elects Two New Officers

Both Will Take Office January 2, 2015

The United MEC has elected Guam-based Captain Bruce Bishop as Secretary and Washington-based First Officer Rick Cameron as Treasurer during a special meeting. Captain Bishop’s term begins immediately, while First Officer Cameron will take office on January 2, 2015.

The two newly-elected officers will finish the unexpired terms of former Treasurer Captain Dave Earnest, who retired from United Airlines in October 2014, and Captain Eric Hunter, who is stepping down from his position effective January 2, 2015.

“Captain Bishop and First Officer Cameron bring a wealth of experience and union work to their new positions, and the pilots of United will reap the benefits of that experience,” said United MEC Chairman Captain Jay Heppner. “I’m confident both pilots will step in and hit the ground running. (MEC Vice Chairman) Captain (Bob) Fox and I both look forward to working with them.

“On behalf of my fellow MEC Officers, members of the MEC and the 12,500 pilots we represent, I would like to express my appreciation for the service and dedication of Captains Earnest and Hunter. Both served their fellow aviators with distinction and honor during their many years of ALPA service.”

Prior to his election as MEC Secretary, Captain Bishop, a B-737 Captain and 21-year veteran with Continental and United Airlines, served as Council 173 (Guam) Chairman.

First Officer Cameron, a 19-year United veteran and B-777 First Officer, most recently served as Council 11 (Washington-Dulles) Chairman prior to today’s election.
